Toulon president Mourad Boudjellal has been handed an eight-week touchline ban for comments made about officiating in the Top 14.

Boudjellal’s criticised referee Thomas Charabas — who is also an emergency room doctor — after the team’s 40-29 defeat to Racing 92 on Nov. 22, stating that: “I just hope he makes fewer mistakes when he operates.”

His ire didn’t end with the refereeing in that game, with the comic-book magnate saying everyone in the entire stadium saw forward passes in their matches against Clermont, Bordeaux and Agen, except the referees.

The ban will also prevent him from accessing the officials’ changing room, with the suspension coming to an end after Mar. 12.

Toulon currently sit fifth, four points behind Racing in fourth and seven points behind first-placed La Rochelle.
