Warren Gatland could recall a host of first-team players to the Wales starting lineup to face Ireland in a fortnight, with Dan Biggar and Taulupe Faletau both nearing a Six Nations return.
Rhys Patchell has debutised in the absence of first-choice fly-halves Biggar and Rhys Priestland and took over the kicking duties from the injured Leigh Halfpenny in their defeat to England on Saturday, but failed to have the same impact as his Scarlets teammate from the kicking tee.
“Dan [Biggar] has started to do a little more so we will take a good look at him in training and Taulupe’s not too far away,” said Gatland. “He [Faletau] will probably need a run out for Bath before we consider him so whether he will be right for a week or two, it will probably be a bit short.”
Halfpenny is another who will be monitored, with Gatland hoping he will be back in training this week once the swelling on his infected foot goes down.
